Self-Access, or autonomous learning, is an approach to learning where individuals take responsibility for their own self-improvement outside the classroom.
The Self-Access Centre (SAC) is a place for students to improve their English language skills through self-directed study. It provides access to a wide range of materials and offers its facilities not only to the METU students but also to the adult students learning English at the School of Foreign Languages (SFL).
The SAC can be found on the ground floor of D Building at the Department of Basic English (DBE), Middle East Technical University (METU).

The SAC, with its lending library, various educational materials and tools, computer and multi-media facilities, silent study rooms and services on the Internet, offers its students several educational opportunities outside the class.
English Language instructors are available at all times at the SAC to help students identify their needs and choose study materials accordingly.
